Whale sharks are the largest fish in the ocean. They have a wide mouth, which they use to filter feed on plankton. They are a supporting and major characters in the Franchise.

Appearance[]

Whale Sharks are cyan colored, with light dots along their back and a white underbelly. The back also has ovular, white marks with some cyan stripes, which start from dorsal fin level to the beginning of the tail level. On the right, there is a black spot on top of the gills, which is the ear. The whale shark has three small gills on each side, where the skin color dips.

Behavior/Personality[]

Unlike other sharks in the series and in real life, who are usually aggressive, violent, mean, and very rude. The whale shark seems to be the most friendliest shark and calmest shark in the series, as he does not like eating big things like the Octonauts, and he hates having stomach aches, or poisoned by the porcupine pufferfish. He's usually happy to eat his own food. Even though he has sharp teeth, he prefers to be a filter feeder than a predatory animal. They usually like to swim across oceans to find themselves food, like Krill.

History of appearances[]

In the whale shark, Dashi thought the whale shark's mouth was a cave but the Octonauts contacted Dashi and warned her she was in a whale shark. Unfortunately she wasted time when she grabbed her camera before she got out of the shark's jaw. Leaving the Octonauts loosing no contact. Although the whale shark did accidently ate Barnacles and Kwazii without chewing them up, they went through the stomach and arrived to save Dashi. Unfortunately the whale shark was not happy because he had a bad tummy ache, but as soon as Peso tickled his stomach and he opened his mouth to release Dashi, Kwazii, and Captain Barnacles. He felt better, then burped on them extremely loudly, pushing the Gup-A and the Octonauts leaving them grossed out.

In the dolphin reef rescue, when the Dolphin had Captain Barnacle's loudspeaker in his nose and swam off really fast, outside of the coral reef. They both saw a whale shark straight ahead directly in front of them, luckily barnacles was able to warn the Dolphin before they swam into his mouth opening up as they passed below the big creature.

In the dwarf lantern shark, the whale shark makes another appearance, diving down deep looking for food, while the Octonauts are discovering the krill, then just before Peso was going to save the dwarf lantern shark, from his shell being very buggy and hurting him, the whale shark accidently flings the smaller shark behind him with his tail and he gets flung off into the ocean darkness. Leaving Peso worried about him.

In the Porcupine Puffer, the whale shark plays as another major character in this episode. Puffer accidently gets into the whale shark's mouth when the whale shark dodges the Octopod. Thinking he was too big to be eaten by puffing up. But he was rescued in time just before the whale shark got poisoned, and the puffer, saved before he turned into food.

In the great barrier reef, in the first part, Corey asked the audience where he was, but when they pointed out at the wrong person. It was just a whale shark, sooner in the special, it appears in the little bit reprise with whitetips sharks swimming around them, however there were more then 1 whale sharks, so they swam around in a ring.

A Whale Shark appears in Above and Beyond Season 3, where he goes to eat food in the Red Tide seaside, unlike the other whale sharks that appeared in the series, he actually speaks.

Trivia[]

  • Whale sharks are one of the only animals that do not make an appearance in Season 4, the others are Giant Squids, Blue Whales, Colossal squids, and great white sharks.
  • The Whale Shark is a species of shark, not whale.
  • The whale shark is the only Octonauts creatures that never speaks.
  • Real whale sharks have teeth more like a baleen whale’s.
  • The only time a Whale Shark has ever met a Cetacean (A species of Whale or Dolphin), was in The Dolphin Reef Rescue. So far, the Whale Shark has been seen with no type of whale throughout the series, however a book cover for a Creature Report Book shows a Whale Shark with an Orca and a Blue Whale.
